Podcast Baustelle Bauwesen is talking to Xavier Font about the
artisan approach he is applying in his structural designs. Xavier
Font is a Spain-based structural engineer leading his own company
Alfa Polaris. He has won several national and international
prices with his designs. The most popular structure is the
amazing restoration of the Pont Trencat in Sant Celoni (Spain,
Catalonia). He is also working in a collaboration of engineers in
order to be more competitive. This conjunction has led to the
successful participation on international bridge
competitions.
Michi & Philip of Baustelle Bauwesen are talking to him and
they end up speechless. The philosophy of Xavier Font is just
amazing. It is not only about his artisan approach but more about
the way he found his track to become such a successful engineer.
His works are engineering masterpieces. And this is definitely
due to his creative approach of designing and unconventional work
style.
Together with him we are discussing whether structural
engineering is art or whether it's not. You will hear why Xavier
sees himself as a director and he compares his work with the work
of moviemakers. Stay tuned, because Xavier is exactly the kind of
people we need in the structural engineering world of the 21st
century.
This is Michi's & Philip's first English episode, usually we
drop everything we do in German. But we consider this as slightly
influential, that's why we are going to drop international
episode in between our regular German episodes.
