For this episode, we talked to Antar Keith. He pursued his BA in
Adolescent Education in English Literature and MA in National and
Transnational Studies before settling in his current residence of
Leipzig, Germany. With over ten years’ experience as an English
educator in inner-city regions of the United States and Germany,
Antar Keith enjoys fostering stronger transnational ties between
U.S. and German youth, civilians, and military professionals
within Germany. His job is to facilitate bridges between
cultures, and this is exactly what he hopes to accomplish for
African Americans and white Americans within the context of U.S.
race relations.
His previous and current activities include working to expand
voter participation; leading discussions on racism, sexism, and
homophobia for the German military personnel; and lobbying for
anti-racist policies within German institutions of higher
education. He is now dedicated to taking this fight to the triple
evils of U.S. police brutality, mass incarceration, and voter
suppression.
His book and movie recommendations:
- Assata by Assata Shakur
- Nobody by Marc Lamont Hill
- The New Jim Crow by Michele Alexander
- Malcolm X (1992)
- 13th (2016)
- Suppressed: The Fight to Vote (2019)
DAIS stands in solidarity with the ongoing protests
against police brutality and will continue to provide educational
resources to understand and dismantle institutionalized racism in
the U.S., Germany, and everywhere.
