Today's episode of the Kaput podcast has been a long time coming.
We originally planned to meet up with Rabih Beaini at last year's
Meakusma festival in Eupen, Belgium, but a pretty bad case of the
flu postponed our conversation. Somehow that was a good thing,
because it gave us the opportunity to visit Rabih at his work home,
the Morphine Raum, the music studio/happening location he runs in
Berlin Kreuzberg. Rabih Beaini was born in Lebanon and still has
strong ties to his homeland and its music scene, even though he has
been living in Berlin for some time now. After the catastrophic
explosion in the port of Beirut, he organised an emergency
fundraising campaign and released a benefit compilation to help
those affected by the disaster. Rabih Beaini began his musical
career in the 90s under the Morphosis imprint; in addition to his
own activities as a DJ and producer, he runs the Morphine label and
has released music by the likes of Hieroglyphic Being, Anthony
"Shake" Shakir, Container, Charles Cohen and Marta De Pascalis. It
is my huge pleasure to talk kaput today with Rabih Beaini.
