In today's episode you’ll hear an amazing chat and also really
moving story of Allen Banick.
In episode 31 you’ve already heard me talk to Allen’s wife Marta
about her unique hero’s journey and how she was able to overcome
her personal trauma of childhood abuse and a year-long cocaine
addiction with the help of plant medicines.
Now in this conversation we talk about Allen’s early adult life,
where he was living in NYC as a bartender, severely depressed and
unable to hold down a job or a relationship for more than a few
years. Ultimately looking for more meaning in his own life, he
left everything behind at the age of 33 to go on pilgrimage to
Spain to find himself.
It was while working with ayahuasca for the first time that he
was able to realise that he was essentially living his adult life
through the lens of the impact of his childhood trauma, namely
the sudden death of his mother when he was 4 years old.
We talk about the lessons that plant medicine and inner work
taught him to better understand and gradually process and
integrate the true history and defence mechanisms of his trauma.
Further topics we touch upon are how our ego stories and
identifications with feelings and thoughts, and defence
mechanisms like dissociation as a result of extreme PTSD can keep
us trapped in the past. How to properly work and deal with
intense emotions. Practical Tools for integration work and
Allen’s most moving ayahuasca & Iboga story
You will learn how Allen's original search for answers on the
outside in 2013 ultimately became a deeply introspective journey
to find himself and learn to accept his past with all of his
different aspects of himself.
