In this new episode of WAS MIT KUNST, Johann König speaks with the
artist Dennis Osadebe about how he earned a BSc in Business
Management from Queen Mary University, London, and an MSc in
Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the University of Warwick,
Coventry, originally pursuing a career in business before embarking
on his journey as a self-taught artist. Osadebe is recognized for
his post-pop style, which is centered around the idea of
reimagining his heritage through positive, provocative, and
progressive imagery and narratives. His practice utilises a
personal iconography that explores ancestry, technology, and the
possibilities of humanity. For his first solo show in Berlin, DO
YOU KNOW HOW TO PRAY? The Lagos-based artist has developed a unique
pictorial language comprises of six new paintings, two stained
glass works, and one sculpture; populated with figures that don
masks, which routinely stare out at the viewer. In WAS MIT KUNST,
Dennis Osadebe talks about the concept behind his new body of works
and what brought him to put belief systems, religion and the nature
of prayer under a new light.
