Daily of the Month is a podcast that explores what the necessary
ingredients for good collaboration are. In preparation for this
Episode it became clear to us that we have spent most of our time
focusing our energy on just that, the ingredients for good
collaboration. This conversation with Mike Burrows, led us to zoom
our focus out and take the metaview of what are the characteristics
seen in the ideal forms of collaboration, as well as the obstacles
to be avoided. Mike Burrows is the founder of the Agendashift
engagement model and movement and has taken a bit of a squiggly
career path to get to where he is today. The diversity in his
career experience working as a programmer, international executive
director for a large bank, CTO for an succesful exited startup,
trainer/consultant, author and speaker enrich his understanding of
what it means to be a Human@Work striving with others to create
value and meaning in this world. Mike challenges us to: - Consider
collaboration to be a thing, or a specific kind of relationship
that produces great things Many organizations approach working
together through the lenses of frameworks and necessary solutions
to reach pre-defined states. This type of approach often leads to
method wars and dogmatic kind of behaviors. It is argued in this
episode that at the heart of good collaboration is people engaging
each other regardless of framework, with harmony and friction to
make agreements and to co-create desired outcomes. Participation
becomes the driver of generative, innovative outcomes. What we
found very inspiring about the work of Mike, which was especially
clear in his book Agendashift was the focus on an ecology of
practices(workshops, conversation forms and embodied metaphors)
that give readers guidance for cultivating a nutrient rich soil in
their teams/organizations that supports the growth and learning of
the group. The large number of stories shared throughout the
episode ground the abstract nature of theory in the tangible of
lived examples. We invite you to have a listen and dive the down
the rabbit hole with us in this month's episode of DOTM. More about
the episode can be found on
