In this experimental work the basics of diabetic gastroparesis were
investigated under optimized blood sugar control at patients with
for many decades diabetes mellitus type-1. It could be proven in
this work against the past opinion that autonomous polyneuropathy
does not retard gastric emptying of normal food substantially.
Likewise it was shown that the calorie-dependent feedback mechanism
of gastric emptying is intact. The emptying of the gallbladder was
not primarily disturbed but secondarily adapted to gastric
emptying. In addition it was found for the first time that the
peptide hormone Ghrelin declines postprandially, and it was
uncovered, how the kinetics of peptide hormones is changed in
diabetes in the sense of a compensation of gastroparesis.
