Almost a year ago, Russia launched its attack against Ukraine.
The war  since February 24, 2022 has wreaked havoc and
devastation in Ukraine -  tens of thousands of soldiers and
civilians have perished. The  geopolitical situation but
also the Russian society have changed as a  result of this
war that President Putin has unleashed.  Raimund Löw talks
about this with a high-ranking expert directly in  Moscow,
Andrei Kolesnikov.


Andrei Kolesnikov is a senior fellow at the
Carnegie Endowment for  International Peace. His research
focuses on the major trends shaping  Russian domestic
politics, with particular focus on ideological shifts
 inside Russian society. He also works with the Gaidar
Institute for  Economic Policy, is member of the board of
the Yegor Gaidar Foundation  and of the Committee of Civil
Initiatives (the Alexei Kudrin Committee).
He previously was the managing editor of Novaya Gazeta newspaper
and  served as deputy editor in chief of Izvestia and The
New Times. Novaya  Gazeta had to close its office last year
in Russia. Novaja Gazetta  Europe, is publishing from
Latvia. He has won numerous journalism awards, and he is the
author of several  books.
