What is an Airline Alliance or Airline Partnership ?

#5 - Airline Alliance ? What is this? Airline Partnership? That
is for most frequent flyers very confusing and not easy to
understand. Basically an airline alliance is a partnership
between two or more airlines. These airlines recognize their
loyalty members. Being a Gold member in one airline program will
get you these benefits with other members in the alliance. Other
benefits are: More destinations, coordinating flights and earning
and redeeming miles on the other Alliance members.


Airline partnerships are mostly bilateral and depending on the
agreements. Sometimes they are only valid for some routes or
flights. Example would be Lufthansa ( Star Alliance) and Cathay
Pacific (Oneworld) on the Hong Kong service to destinations in
Australia and New Zealand.
