Volcanic eruptions can affect the Earth's climate system, and
climate variability occupies an uncomfortable place in historical
enquiry. The interplay of volcanoes, climate and history is an
important factor in understanding political, economic, social and
cultural transformations.
The environmental scientist Ulf Büntgen (Cambridge University),
the historian Nicola Di Cosmo (IAS Princeton) and the
volcanologist and filmmaker Clive Oppenheimer (Cambridge
University) discuss the interplay in this episode and also talk
about the challenges and benefits of interdisciplinarity.
